Having all my teeth removed

So a lot has been happening since I have last posted on here, so lets begin.

Since I last posted I have had all my teeth removed or should I say the 25 that I had left and on boy that was not fun. After having 2 ostomy surgeries, teeth removed and many other procedures I honestly didn't think that it would be that bad but boy I was wrong. Everything started out well, instead of being 5th on the list I was bumped up to 3rd because some people didin't turn up and the anaesthetist managed to get her hands on a paediatric cannula which was so awesome, it was when I woke up afterwards that things went really bad. I was told that they would load me up with local anaesthetic so that I wouldn't be in to much pain when I woke up but that was not the case, when I came round I was in sooooooooooo much and I ended up getting 10mg of morphine through the cannula. Despite getting all that morphine I was still pain, the only time I have ever been still in quite a bit of pain after an op was when I had my ostomy surgeries, I was suppose to be discharge home that evening but thankfully I wasn't.

That night was horrendous, I couldn't get to sleep because my face was so swollen, the pain would not settle and they refused to give me anymore morphine. They did give me extra dihydrocodiene but it really didn't take the edge off.

Day 1 (Wednesday) post op wasn't any better, the pain was still bad and I was starting to feel feverish. I mentioned this to the nurse who then took my temperature which was slightly up so they gave me a fan. As the day went on I was starting to feel worse but they still insisted in discharging me, so I went home. In the early hours of Thursday morning my temperature went up to 38.1C and I couldn't take anymore paracetamol as I already had taken the maximum dose for the day. So as much as I hate doctor's I went to the out of hours which was a big waste of time because they couldn't do anything, they did phone the ward that I had been on but the doctor who was on the ward told me to go home and come back to the dental clinic for 9am. I went back to hospital for 9am, they had a look in mouth and said it didn't look like I had an infection but they were going to give me a weeks worth of antibiotics anyway.

I can not tell you how annoyed I was with the doctor's at dental. The day before I had the surgery I explained that I am very prone to infections (basically every surgical wound gets infected)) and that last time I had my teeth out which was only a couple I developed an infection afterwards but for some reason they thought that I wouldn't get an infection. I get so sick of telling doctor's things. I don't understand why they don't listen to me, I am not like a normal person I have been sick for 16 years and I know how my body reacts to things.

I am so glad that this is all over and I never have to go back and get more teeth removed, unfortunately though this experience has made my fear of hospitals worse and because of that I have cancelled a few hospital appointments because my anxiety has been so bad.

Friday 20th February 2015

I am still battling with the depression but I would say that it is a little bit better now, I really hope it continues to get better but I don't want to get my hopes up too much just yet.

Over the past few days I have noticed that I have been developing a lot of pain in my hands which is not good for a blogger or a crafter. Now this will sound weird but it's kind of good that I have pain in fingers because I have been wondering recently if I had nerve damage in my fingers. For many years now I have had raynaud's phenomenon so I would say that I have never had normal feeling in my extremities but I would say for the last month the numbness has become worse and I find it hard to do fiddly things but having this pain means I can't have that much nerve damage.

This week I finally got round to buying myself a new blender and a juicer.

I have been meaning to buy these things for a long time because the current blender that I have is really struggling with the pureeing but I must say for a cheap blender it has done really well, this time round I have gone for a more expensive one. The one that I have purchased has more power and it crush's ice so I thought this one would be more suitable for pureeing. As I was buying a blender from John Lewis I thought I might as well get a juicer at the same time, buying this juicer will hopefully help me to get extra vitamins into my body as it's always such a struggle for me to get enough vitamins with all the problems that I have.

Friday 11th April 2014

Today the nightmare finally ended and I got discharged from hospital.

This morning the GI doctor's came round to do to there normal morning ward round and it was positive news, as it had been 36 hours since I had the dilation and I hadn't displayed any signs of surgical emphysema they said that they weren't going to bother with scan and I could start eating and drinking. I had some porridge and water for breakfast and they both went down okay so I was allowed to go home in the afternoon.

It is so nice to be out of there and I can't wait sleep in my own bed tonight. I would be lying though if I said I wasn't anxious about going home especially since they didn't do the scan to find out what was going on in my oesophagus but I feel okay and I am not in that much pain so I am sure everything is fine.

Surgical emphysema occurs when air gets into tissues under the skin. This usually occurs in the skin covering the chest wall or neck, but can also occur in other parts of the body.

Thursday 10th April 2014

Today has been an extremely stressful, crappy day and I am so glad that it is finally over.

Despite all the stress I was under I did manage to get some sleep thanks to the lorazepam that they gave. I had to woken up multiple times during that night to get my blood pressure, temperature and oxygen levels checked because they were keeping a very close eye on me.

So when GI doctors came and did their ward round in the morning the consultant felt that there wasn't a oesophageal perforation because I was so well and didn't have any more pain then I normally do. The GI doctor would have been more then happy to let me go home but because he didn't do the dilation and the consultant radiologist did he was going to do what the radiologist had advised.

As the hours went past nobody was coming to take me for the scan. In the late afternoon the nurse in charge asked if I had been for my scan and I said no, she said that she would find out what was going on but the nurse never came back. Finally at roughly 7pm a doctor came to explain why I had not got my scan, apparently somebody in the radiology department took the request for the scan off the computer system and because the request was not on the computer when the GI doctors looked at it they just presumed it had been done.

This was the finally straw for me I couldn't handle anymore so I broke down and cried, I just want this nightmare to end.

Wednesday 9th April 2014

So today was oesophageal dilation day and I was really looking forward to getting it done because I hadn't eaten any solid food for 3 months but procedure didn't go to plan. When I woke up in the recovery room I found that they had to put an I.V into my foot because the veins in my arms are completely shot but unfortunately there was worse news to come. The recovery nurse told me that I needed to get an urgent C.T scan done but she never told me the reason why I had to have it, so of course I start to panic. I am thinking to myself why do I need this scan? I have probably had this procedure done about 30 times in the past 5 years and not once have I needed to get a scan afterwards.

Three hours after I came back from the getting the dilation I still hadn't had the scan and nobody had told me what was going on, finally after four hours at just after 8pm two doctor's form the GI ward eventually told me what was going on. During the procedure the consultant radiologist thought that the oesophagus had torn during the dilation due to him over stretching it. Being told this made me panic even more and honestly I was really scared, I always knew that this was one of the risks of having a dilation but it is one of this things that will happen to you especially when you have had dialtions so many times before and nothing like this has ever gone wrong.

Due to it being so late in the evening I was told that I wouldn't be getting the scan today, it would have to be done the following morning and because of the complication they thought I had I was nil by mouth until they did the scan. Of course being nil by mouth meant that I couldn't take my anti anxiety medication so they had to give me half the standard dose of lorazepam, thankfully this medication helped calm me so fingers crossed I will be able to sleep.
