About me

Hello everyone my name is Leona but you can also call me Missy, I am in my 30's and I was born and raised in Scotland.

I was officially diagnosed with Crohn's disease in January 2000 at age 11 but I actually started displaying symptoms in October 1999. I was initially treated with steroids, mesalazine but they need to introduce azathioprine as the other 2 medications were not working. I was on azathioprine for a while but it still not put me into remission so they decided to switch my medication to mercaptopurine. Eventually, I went into remission and I was in remission until 2007.

In October 2008 I had surgery to give me a colostomy and then in January 2010 I had to have an emergency operation which gave me an ileostomy but despite all the complications that I suffered after both surgeries I wouldn't go back to the "normal" way.

In 2009 I developed an oesophageal stricture and then a couple of years ago I found out that I had active Crohn's and the second stricture in my oesophagus, Due to having these oesophageal stricture's I spend most of my time not being able to eat and sometimes I am even unable to drink so I have to
fed through a tube that goes directly into my stomach.

In 2009 I developed depression and anxiety and unfortunately it is something that I still have to battle today because until my physical health improves the depression and anxiety will not.

My goal in life is to help make people who have chronic illnesses and mental health issues feel like they are not battling alone.

I may have rubbish health but there is so much more to me than just my illness.
